how to change the social media sharing icons on project pages

Case ID #5339   -   Setup / Installation

I'd like to change the social media sharing icons used in project pages to be the more recognizable ones more commonly used (eg facebook – the white 'f' in a blue background).

The "Display Official Sharing Buttons" toggle when on doesn't show a facebook button, shows the word 'Tweet' for twitter (instead of the twitter icon), "Pin It' for pinterest vs an icon, and others are missing, such as google+.

I did see a post that provided some custom css to change the link color of all of the links all in one go, but thats not quite what I'm after. Is there a way to change how/what the "Display Official Sharing Buttons" end up displaying (eg some underlying php config file that maps some urls that could be adjusted?).

Thanks in advance!
