I am wondering if there is a way to "share" categories between different post types?

I am currently in the process of switching some (or all) of my Blog posts to a custom post type.
I have used the Category to Tag convertor tool, and now I would like to convert some of those tags back to Categories. Problem is I need them to be Categories (or Creative Fields) for the new Post Type. Not "Categories" that will end up in the original "Blog Post" (which is what is happening now).

Is there a way to "share" categories? or can I change the slug on my new custom Post to "categories" in order for both post types to use the same categories? I was afraid to do this in case I end up really messing things up, and I am hoping not to have to re-do all my categories (and slugs).
