Northeme Is Evolving — A New Chapter

A modern direction, built on the same principles

⚠️ Important: The current Northeme themes are still scheduled to reach end-of-life in June 2026 as previously announced. The new product mentioned in this article will be a separate modern foundation with migration options.

After announcing that Northeme would be shutting down, I received an overwhelming number of thoughtful messages from long-time users. The level of support and appreciation was honestly beyond my expectations, and it meant a lot.

But what stood out even more was one common question:

What should we migrate to?

For a long time, I didn’t have a clear answer. There wasn’t a product I could confidently recommend and truly stand behind. And that didn’t sit right with me. I’ve been looking for a viable solution, and eventually decided to build a new product that utilizes modern WordPress features while maintaining a familiar experience.

When I decided to close Northeme, it was because I felt disconnected from the direction the WordPress ecosystem was taking. It seemed increasingly complex and fragmented, moving away from the simplicity that originally inspired this project. But the issue wasn’t modern WordPress itself — it was the gap between new capabilities and traditional simplicity. That gap is what I want to solve.

I’m currently building a modern foundation based on a core plugin. It will embrace Gutenberg and new WordPress standards, remove external dependencies, improve WooCommerce integration, and most importantly, provide a clear migration path for existing customers.

The goal is the same as it was in 2012: to create tools that help people focus on their content first — without getting lost in complexity.

The original themes will still reach end-of-life in June 2026, as previously announced. That timeline remains. I expect the new product to be available before that deadline. Even if there are delays, you will not be left without options — you can continue using your current theme safely.

To everyone who has supported Northeme over the years — and especially those who reached out recently — thank you. Your trust, feedback, and patience genuinely shaped this decision.

More details will follow soon.
