After announcing that Northeme would be shutting down, I received an overwhelming number of thoughtful messages from long-time users. The level of support and appreciation was honestly beyond my expectations, and it meant a lot.

But what stood out even more was one common question:

What should we migrate to?

For a long time, I didn’t have a clear answer. There wasn’t a product I could confidently recommend and truly stand behind. And that didn’t sit right with me. I’ve been looking for a viable solution, and eventually decided to build a new product that utilizes modern WordPress features while maintaining a familiar experience.

When I decided to close Northeme, it was because I felt disconnected from the direction the WordPress ecosystem was taking. It seemed increasingly complex and fragmented, moving away from the simplicity that originally inspired this project. But the issue wasn’t modern WordPress itself — it was the gap between new capabilities and traditional simplicity. That gap is what I want to solve.

I’m currently building a modern WordPress foundation built around a core plugin and a new hybrid theme. It takes advantage of Gutenberg and modern WordPress features without forcing you into a completely different way of building your website. The goal is to keep the experience familiar while removing external dependencies, improving WooCommerce integration, and providing a clear migration path for existing customers.

The goal is the same as it was in 2012: to create tools that help people focus on their content first — without getting lost in complexity.

The original themes will still reach end-of-life in June 2026 June 2027. I’ve decided to extend the transition period by another year to make the move to the new platform as smooth as possible. My current target is to release the new product around September 2026, and I’ll share updates as development progresses. Even if development takes a little longer than expected, you won’t be left without options. You can continue using your current theme safely throughout the transition.
